Dakel Energy
for percussion quartet
Dakel Energy by Francisco Perez is a percussion quartet written for and dedicated to Dakel Percusión from Chile, with whom the composer has had numerous collaborations. The piece evokes the fiery musical spirit and flow of the percussion group through driving, layered, and syncopated rhythms with brilliant interplay between the three keyboard instruments as well as between the drums and melodic voices.
All four parts rely heavily on rhythmic phrasing using syncopated accents to create a full and rich composite sound, while the multipercussion player truly simulates a small group of two to three percussionists to provide the drive and rhythmic accompaniment to the keyboards.
