Colin McNutt is one of the hottest names in marching percussion today. Currently the caption head and arranger for the Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps, Colin has been at the helm of many great programs over the last 20 years. In 1992, he aged out of drum corps with the Santa Clara Vanguard alongside fellow tenor drummers and Violent Tenor Cream co-contributors Murray Gusseck, Matt Altmire, Mark Campbell, and Mike Apodaca.

Colin’s percussive genius had early beginnings with Scrape Ape. Colin was awarded 1st place for his performance of this solo at the 1992 Drum Corps International Individual & Ensemble competition (followed by runners-up Matt Altmire and Mark Campbell!). One of unique features of the piece is that portions of it were freely improvised on the spot. These have been carefully transcribed and added into the written sections to complete the final version presented here. Hope you brought an appetite for notes…and scrapes!
