Cavatina by Stanley Myers is the theme song to the award-winning 1971 Universal Pictures and EMI Films presentation of The Deer Hunter. Originally written for solo guitar, this piece represents the tranquility of the woodlands in western Pennsylvania versus the horrors of the Vietnam War.

Gifford Howarth‘s arrangement for marimba utilizes a one-handed roll to help bring out the melody line while leaving the other hand to play the moving bass line. The piece is written for a low E marimba, but it can be easily adapted to a 4.3-octave (low A) marimba by simply playing lower notes up an octave and playing most of the middle section up an octave.

This piece is only available as an instant PDF download for printing or tablet viewing. (Published by GHowarth Publications. Electronic distribution exclusively by Tapspace.)
