Andrew Smit (b. 1991) is a composer, arranger, educator, and percussionist based in Dallas, TX whose music is rooted in music education. He is the former Director of Percussion at Lake Highlands High School and is still actively involved with bands across the state of Texas by offering clinics, writing music for percussion solos/ensembles, and arranging for drumlines during the Fall and Winter seasons.
Andrew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where he studied under Kevin Bobo, Steve Houghton, John Tafoya, and Michael Spiro. During his time at IU, he performed with the IU Drumline, Wind Ensemble, Concert Orchestra, Brazilian Ensemble, and Afro-Cuban Ensemble, which was a featured performing ensemble at the 2011 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC). Andrew has also competed with The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps.
His professional affiliations include the Percussive Arts Society, Texas Music Educators Association, and Texas Bandmasters Association. He is a proud endorser of Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets.
