Hunter Stricklin (b. 1984) grew up in Hendersonville, Tennessee. His interest in percussion began in middle school when he was encouraged to fill a spot in Music City Mystique’s 1998 front ensemble. He continued to perform with the ensemble in 1999, on marching cymbals, and from 2001–2007, on marching snare. He was section leader of the ensemble from 2003–2007. Hunter also performed with Middle Tennessee State University, helping win two PASIC Championships—one in 2003 under the small ensemble caption and again in 2004 under the large ensemble caption. In 2003, he was a marching member of the Patriots Drum and Bugle Corps out of Rochester, NY.
Hunter attended Middle Tennessee State University, where he studied composition under Dr. Paul Osterfield and percussion under Lalo Davila, Christian Brooks, Brad Palmer, and Andy Smith. He earned a BM in Theory/Composition in 2007, a BM in Music Education in 2010, and an MSED in School Counseling in 2024. Hunter is currently a 504 Coordinator at Page High School in Franklin, TN.
