Seth Adams (b. 1981) is Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in music education. He earned his Ph.D. in music education during a five-year fellowship at Northwestern University’s Center for the Study of Education and the Musical Experience. Dr. Adams conducts research into real time internet-mediated music, the performance practices of popular music ensembles, and the positive social effects of music-making. His approach to music education is influenced by his own genre-crossing as a performer and teacher, including multiple years each as a full-time bassist, a high school band director, a DCI front ensemble arranger and instructor, and an orchestral teaching artist working on Chicago’s West Side. Dr. Adams is also a recipient of the Modern Band Higher Education Fellowship from Music Will. As a Higher Ed Fellow, Seth incorporates popular music pedagogy in the preservice music educator program at UMass Lowell. Seth has presented original research throughout the United States and abroad, and is a sought-after guest conductor in New England.
