Stephen Primatic (b. 1967) is a Professor of Music at the Armstrong Campus of Georgia Southern University in Savannah Georgia where he teaches percussion, theory, jazz, and music technology. Steve earned his Bachelor of Music in percussion performance from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He received his Master of Music from The University of Miami, and his Doctor of Musical Arts from The University of Georgia.
In addition to teaching, Steve maintains an active performing career in the southeastern United States. He is currently principal percussionist with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra in Hilton Head South Carolina, and The Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra. Steve also plays in jazz, classical, and theater venues throughout the region.
As a jazz drummer, Steve has performed with Jimmy Heath, Benny Golson, Clark Terry, Ellis Marsalis, Bobby Watson, Tom Scott, John Faddis, Fred Wesley, Kevin Mahogany, and many other jazz luminaries. He was also a member of the Darius Rucker Big Band in the early 2000s.
Steve has over 25 compositions/arrangements for percussion ensemble and solo percussion published through various publishers. He also has published books on percussion pedagogy and instrument maintenance/repair.
