Duda Moura

Duda Moura (b. 1963) has over 40 years as a musician. He studied symphonic percussion at the Fundação das Artes de São Caetano do Sul (Fascs) with professor Carmo Bartoloni, and drums with Zé Carlos Silva at the Novo Tempo school.

In Florida, USA, where he lived between 1988 and 1991, he participated in workshops with drummers such as David Garibaldi, Rod Morgenstein, Joe Franco, Billy Cobham, Alex Acuña, Gerry Brown, Sonny Emory, and Joe Morello, among others. During this period, he was a member of the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) and the Sunshine Jazz Organization.

In 1991, he was hired by the Disney World Corporation to perform at the Mickey Mouse’s Carnival event at Tokyo Disneyland in Japan. The following year, he traveled to France and joined the Parisian group El Batukada, touring as part of the national campaign against the HIV virus.

Back in Brazil, he performed with major names in Brazilian popular music, such as Wanderléa, Jerry Adriani, Marina Lima, Vania Abreu, Paulinho Boca de Cantor, Daniela Mercury, Carlinhos Brown, Maria Creuza, Roberto Menescal, and many others. Additionally, he was a musician on the TV Globo program hosted by Tom Cavalcante.

Duda is the author of the books Bateria Ouvir & Tocar (Drums: Listen & Play), volumes 1 and 2, and Grooves do Brasil, published by EME Editora. Grooves do Brasil was also published in the United States by Tapspace Publications.

In England, he released two CDs featuring Brazilian rhythm loops: Pure Brazilian Beats (Zero-G) and One World (Advanced Media Group), the latter in partnership with percussionist Caio Ignácio.

He has taught drums at schools such as Curson, Conservatório Carlos Gomes, Novo Tempo, and the Projeto Guri, part of the São Paulo State Department of Culture. At the latter, he held the positions of teacher and supervisor.

Currently, he is the owner and creator of the Drumming Boy Drum Course in São Caetano do Sul (SP) and a trainer of young music/percussion teachers at the ONG Amigos do Bem in the states of Pernambuco, Alagoas, and Ceará.
