Shark Week!
for percussion ensemble
Shark Week! by Joe Hobbs is a medium-level ensemble piece written for 7 players and premiered by the Canyon Ridge Middle School Band at the 2025 Midwest Clinic. Inspired by the school’s shark mascot, the piece captures the energy, excitement, and playfulness that define the program’s spirit.
The piece’s quick pace and syncopated rhythms ought to supply a fun challenge for intermediate ensembles. Small soloistic moments highlight a few of the parts, and all players will need to be able to hold their own across shifting time signatures (2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, and 7/8).
Scored for instruments commonly found in any band hall, this work is practical for a wide range of ensembles and setups. It may be performed as a standalone ensemble work or from the back of a concert band configuration, offering directors flexibility based on space and personnel. With its spirited pacing and accessible instrumentation, Shark Week! is a fun, drummy showcase that performers will love bringing to life.
This piece ships as a fully bound score or as an instant PDF download for printing or tablet viewing. Individual parts come exclusively in PDF format.
